| Abstract | The article contains an analyses of the Livonian Chronicle of Johann Renner (1525-1583/84) as a historical source. It was the earliest and the most trustworthy Chronicle narrating the first years of Livonian War. It was written in 1561-1562, and the second version was edited after 1578 under the influence of Livonian Chronicle of Baltazar Ruissow. As J. Renner wrote, the main task of his book was to demonstrate, that Muscovites aggression had been very cruel, terrible, bloody and brutal. He described the military actions of 1556-1561 in detail. Many facts were unique and trustworthy. The article contains an analyses of the peculiarities of presentation of facts, authoring system, discourses of Renner's opinion. Renner's Chronicle wasn't published in the 16th cent. and hadn't an influence upon European narrative about Livonian war. But it was valuable as the first German Chronicle about this conflict. It was published in 1953 only (the second, late version - in 1876). The manuscript of Renner's Chronicle was lost during the Second World War. | ||||||||
