Abstract | The article denotes the development of Slavonic Historical Studies tradition in Saint-Petersburg University from prior times to our days. Making summary review of its preceding activity nobody must forget that Slavonic traditions in Historical (at the prior times - Historical -Philological) Department took their beginnings much more before our days - in XIX century. Though there was not any separate Chair of South and Western Slavs History in St. Petersburg Empire University, it didn't mean that Slavonic Historical Studies were neglected. It's quite enough to remind of the fact that such famous historians as V. I. Lamansky, N. I. Kareev and many others were teaching there for a long time. But studying Slavonic History was interrupted after the Revolution in 1917. The attempts to renew Slavonic Studies in 1940-s faced some diffi culties connected fi rst of all with the absence of experts. Only in the middle of the XX century specialization in the History of the South and Western Slavs was put into the foundation in the Department of History by the activity of O. E. Ivanova, S. M. Stetskevich, V. N. Belanovsky and many other scientists. On the base of this specialization the Chair of Slavonic Countries History was founded in the Historical Department in 2002. | ||||||||
