Abstract For the first time the Russian translation of the prologue and the first six chapters of the Anonymous Notary's «Gesta Hungarorum», a famous medieval Hungarian narrative monument, is published. The translation is accompanied with a detailed commentary. The monument, dated to the end of the 12th or to the beginning of the 13th century, goes back to the first Hungarian chronicle of the 11th century and contains information on the early history of the Magyars.
